Durbanville

Situated about 28 km northeast of Cape Town, at altitudes between 100–240 m among the Tygerberg Hills. Rapidly growing, Durbanville blends country serenity with urban accessibility — an appealing mix for families and lifestyle buyers.

Founded around a freshwater spring in the early 19th century, initially named Pampoenkraal, renamed D’Urban, and later Durbanville to avoid confusion with Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.

Established as a village by the mid-1800s, it gained municipality status before becoming art of the broader Cape Town Metropolitan area. One of Cape Town’s most desirable northern suburbs, with popular estates like Graanendal, Pinehurst, and Kenridge. It remains semi-rural despite urbanization, retaining farmlands, vineyards, and natural green spaces.

A modern CBD with bustling shopping centers like De Ville, Willowbridge, The Village Square, and now the newly opened Groot Phesantekraal View Mall (R1 billion retail complex).

The Durbanville Wine Valley features about 12 wine estates, offering wine tastings, dining, and scenic vineyard views. It’s known for crisp Sauvignon Blancs influenced by the area’s cooler coastal climate.

Durbanville Nature Reserve: A 6-hectare sanctuary home to rare fynbos, endangered flora like Aristea lugens, and native wildlife.

Uitkamp Wetlands: A 32-hectare wetland preserving rare plant species and hosting a variety of fauna. Rust-en-Vrede Gallery and Clay Museum: Housed in a restored Cape Dutch building rich in history — from prison to courtroom to art gallery.

Onze Molen: A historic mid-1800s windmill, one of only two in the region, designated as a heritage monument. Scenic spots like Majik Forest and Sonstraal Dam great for walking, picnics, and cycling.

A tranquil yet vibrant suburb, favored by young professionals, families, and retirees alike. Known for its excellent schools, medical facilities such as Medi-Clinic, and easy access to major roads, shopping, and urban hubs. The town’s community vibe is bolstered by active safety forums, well-planned development, and a thriving café culture.

Durbanville is a suburb that perfectly balances natural beauty, historical character, and modern convenience. Its close-knit atmosphere, wine valley charm, and recreational options make it a unique and appealing place in the Cape.
